You may have noticed that the menu gets rotated occasionally around here. You may have also noticed that no matter what leaves the menu, the chocolate chip cookie is always there. You may even be asking yourself why. Or maybe you’re not, but I’m gonna tell you why anyway.
The chocolate chip cookie will always be on the menu for many reasons. One of them is that it’s a classic cookie that most people love. It holds a lot of good memories for people. Another is that it’s super fun for me to make. It’s my favorite cookie in the whole world to eat and to make. One of the biggest reasons though, is that the chocolate chip cookie is where this whole thing started. Chocolate chip cookies are the whole reason that Flower and Sugar Farm exists in the way that it does. I started making these cookies, using the exact recipe I still use today in a tiny RV kitchen. Have you ever tried baking cookies in an RV oven? It takes a looong time because those ovens are tiny. Yet, I still kept making them. Flash forward to a few years later, I started taking baked goods to my new job as a bribe to get people to help me. These chocolate chip cookies are the first cookies I brought. They were met with rave reviews and I started getting requests to bring more in. This was the first time I was sharing my baking with people outside my family and people really seemed to enjoy what I had made. Having people outside my family hyping me up gave me the inspiration to pursue this dream I have had for many years. When I was 12 I really wanted to have my own bakery, eventually I outgrew that dream, or so I thought. Turns out it was always in the back of my mind, just waiting to be unleashed on the world again. So these factors also mixed in with the fact that Flower and Sugar Farm started as a project that my mom (she’s still my biggest supporter) and I worked on together and then set aside, lead me to here and now. A dream that wasn’t as impossible as it once seemed, and a bunch of chocolate chip cookies.
